Bessie L. Owens

Mrs. Bessie Lee Owens 90 of 180 Southwood Dr. Clinton, formerly of Garland, died Monday September 5, 2016 at Southwood Nursing Center in Clinton, NC.

Mrs. Owens was born November 10, 1925 in Marlboro Co., Brownsville, SC the daughter of the late Dan Townsend & Lina Caper Townsend. She was preceded in death by children, Jimmy Owens, Daniel Owens, Carolyn Boykin, Sandra Owens, Harry Owens, Sennie Brothers, Betty Newkirk, Mini Gail Owens, Cathy McMillan and Douglas Owens.

Funeral services will be held Saturday September 10, 2016 at 3:00 PM at the Church of The Lord Jesus Christ at 718 Airport Rd. in Garland, NC.  Burial will follow in the Owens Cemetery.

Ms. Owens is survived by her daughters, Janice Highsmith (Jerry), Patricia Sellers (James) of Garland, Phyllis Monk (James) of Roseboro and Debor Lloyd (Scott) of Elizabethtown.  Sons, Arthur Owens of Clinton, Johnny Owens (Dorothy), Don Ray Owens (Joyce) of Roseboro, Leander Owens (Annie) of Garland, Marvin Owens Jr. (Christina) of Whiteville and Howard Owens (Everlene) of Garland, sister Pattie Russ(Theodore) of Garland sister-in-law Gladys Townsend of Garland. 53 Grandchildren,74 Great-grandchildren,5 Great-Great-Grandchildren.

A public viewing will be held Friday September 9, 2016 from 1:00 PM – 5:00 PM with the family present from 5:00 – 6:00 PM at Carter Funeral Home in Garland.
