Joe Edward Rigans

Mr. Joe Edward Rigans 89 of 208 Mercer Mill Rd., Elizabethtown, NC formerly of Tar Heel, died Monday, June 20, 2016 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington, NC.

Ed, as we all called him, had lots of hobbies. He loved messing with cars and was pretty good rebuilding entire vehicles.  He always got chewed out by his mother, Ellen Rigans, for speeding around the curve on two wheels with us kids in the car.  We loved it.  Ed also owned a place for us to go dance, lift weights, eat, and just have fun.  Joe Edward Rigans was full of fun, and a real comedian.

Funeral service will be held at 3:00P.M. Saturday, June 25, 2016 at Clarks Chapel AME Zion Church in Tar Heel, by the Reverend John T. Morrison Jr.  Burial will follow in the Grimes Family Cemetery.

Mr. Rigans is survived by one daughter, Sarah McKoy of New York, NY, one son, Arthur Owens of Elizabethtown, niece Eleanor Dacus, two nephews, Earl Bacoat, Marvin Earl Rigans, and long time friend Lizzie Daniel, two grandsons, Cedric (Dianne), and Gregory B Johnson, Elizabethtown, NC; three granddaughters, Latoya Owens, Charlotte, NC, Robin (Dwight) Newkirk, Bronx, NY, and Kim McNeil, Elizabethtown, NC, and numerous great grands and great great grands; and numerous cousins, other relatives, and friends.

A public viewing will be held on Friday, June 24, 2016 from 1:00P.M.-5:00P.M. at Carter Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at the home of Arthur Owens, 320 McKoy St., Elizabethtown, NC 28337
