Virginia (Thomas) Autry

Virginia Thomas Autry left her earthly body 0n November 8, 2016 while in care at the Elizabethtown Nursing Center.  She was born on October 17, 1925 in Bladen County, NC to the late Willie and Sophie Thomas.

Virginia was the oldest of five children, two who have proceeded her in death Johnny Elbert Thomas and Willie Mae Autry (Leory- deceased).  She affectionately leaves two sisters Catherine Autry and Sadie (Geraldine) Melvin both of Elizabethtown.

Funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, November 12, 2016 at St. Peters AME Zion Church, 816 Barnes Loop Rd. Elizabethtown, NC 28337, by the Reverend Arno Peterson. Burial will follow in the Marshburn cemetery.

Virginia was the wife of the late Odell Autry.  From this union they had seven children, two who proceeded her in death Artis Thomas and Darion Mark Autry.  She has five remaining children to cherish her memory: Linda Powell, Sandra Kaye Hopkins (James) of Elizabethtown, NC, Michael Odell Autry (Shelia – deceased) of Hurdle Mills, NC, Linwood Jay Autry and Cameron Bennette Autry (Benita) of Elizabethtown. In addition to two brothers-in-law Nathan Autry (Dorothy) and Oscar Autry (Delma) also of Elizabethtown, NC. She also leaves a granddaughter she raised as one of her own Geshia Cross (Kevin) of Wendell, NC; 12 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren,  host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends

A public viewing will be held Friday November 11, 2016 from 1:00 PM until 6:00 PM with the family present from 5:00 PM until 6:00 PM.
