Wanda Agnes (Pate) Anders

Mrs. Wanda Pate Anders 95 of 7521 Wildcat Rd. Harrells, (Kerr Station) died Thursday, January 04, 2018 at Sampson Regional Medical Center in Clinton, NC.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Myrtle Pate.  She was born in Wilmington, NC and at age 16 moved with her family to Lake Creek Community in Bladen Co.  There she met and married her husband Jeff Anders who preceded her in death in 2001.  She worked with the U.S. Postal Service, first at Ivanhoe, then at Currie and finally as the rural route carrier in Harrells.  She retired from the postal service at age 74.  In addition, she along with husband Jeff, operated Anders Grocery, a community store and meeting place for 50 plus years, ceasing operation of it in 2006.  Perhaps one of the things that she is best remembered for is the fine cooking that she did in the side kitchen that she was always willing to share especially her homemade biscuits which were sought after far and wide.  “

“Ms. Wanda” had a true heart of a servant and always wanted everyone to be taken care of.  She was loved by many in and outside the Kerr Station Community.  She was a member of the Atkinson Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star and worshipped at Harmony Independent Presbyterian Church where she was once named the church “Women of the Year”.

In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by two sons, Charles Anders and Joe Anders, a daughter Elaine Anders Connell, and seven brothers, Edward, Arnold, Bob, Harold, Harris, Herbert and Marion Pate.  Survivors include her daughter, Peggy Carter and husband Allen of Clinton, two brothers, Donald & Victor Pate, grandchildren, Allyson Moore, Deanna Anders, Dr. Nicole McLaughlin and husband, Dr. Phillip McLaughlin, Dr. Richard Carter Jr., Jonathan Carter, and Kathryn Carter, also surviving are several great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to give special thanks to Tamme, Laney, Cindy, Elizabeth and Mariella at Goshen Medical Center in Garland and to Harriet and Rachel with Sampson Home Health for their many years of loving and faithful service and care.

Funeral service will be held at 2:00P.M. Sunday, January 07, 2018 at Harmony Independent Presbyterian Church, 7460 Wildcat Rd., Harrells, NC by the Reverend Jim Owen.   Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, January 07, 2018 in the Church fellowship hall from 1:00P.M.-1:50P.M., before the service.
