James Richard Herring, Jr.

James Richard Herring Jr., beloved son of James and Faye Herring, was born on February 23, 1952, in Newport News, VA. He peacefully passed away on April 22, 2024, in Harrells, NC, surrounded by his loving family.

James, spent time over the years working on shut downs at the paper mill as a boilermaker construction welder and loved his trade.

Outside of work, James found joy in simple pleasures. He cherished spending time with his cat, casting his line in the water while fishing, and sharing laughter and cherished moments during his long phone conversations with both of his brothers.

James was a natural storyteller, and those who knew him best often found themselves captivated by his tales of days gone by. His kindness, warmth, and genuine nature endeared him to all who crossed his path.

 He is survived by his two brothers, Johnny Herring and wife Linda Herring and brother Donald Herring. James is also survived by his three children, April Herring, TJ Lane, and Richard Herring, along with his grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins. His legacy of love and laughter will live on through those he held dear.

A funeral service to honor and celebrate James's life will be held at Carter Funeral Home Inc. at 2:30 PM, Saturday, April 27, 2024, 111 North Ingold Avenue, Garland, NC, USA. In this time of grief, let us find solace in the memories we shared with James and the impact he had on all our lives. May he rest in eternal peace. Interment to follow in Harrells Cemetery, Harrells, NC.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, April 27, 2024,  one hour prior to the service, from 1:30-2:30 PM, at Carter Funeral Home.
