Alexander Murphy, Sr.

Mr. Alexander Murphy, Sr. was born on June 06, 1941, to the late Tomie and Willie Carol Murphy. He departed this life on August 27, 202 at Wake Med Center in Raleigh, NC. In addition to his parents, Alexander is preceded in death by two brothers: Neil Murphy; and John Thomas Murphy. Alexander served Garland for many years as a mechanic at Blackburn’s Amoco, and later as the owner/operator of Murphy’s Amoco Service Station.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, September 01, 2023, at Garland First Baptist Church, 227 E. 4th St., Garland. Interment to follow at the Cheek Cemetery, 4046 NC HWY 210 E., Harrells. The Reverend Dr. Louis W. Hackett will be officiating the service.

Alexander leaves to cherish his memory, his beloved wife of 61 years: Myrtise Cheek Murphy of the home, son: Alexander Murphy, Jr. (Robbie) of Raleigh, one daughter: Regina Henry of SC, one brother: Bobbie Murphy (Clara) of Harrells, two sisters: Carolyn Holder (Warren) of Harrells; Margaret Merritt (Donald Wayne) of Harrells, two sister-in-law’s: Evelyn Murphy; Diane Murphy, four granddaughters: Yolanda Henry Flores (Marcos); Kayla Henry Flores (Mario); Keiona Henry; Mckenzie Murphy, one grandson: Damien, 4 great-grandchildren: Harper Flores; Chance Flores; Mateo Flores; Aubrey Henry, and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends of the community.

A viewing will be held on Thursday, August 31, 2023, from 1:00-6:00 PM, at Carter Funeral Home in Garland, and at other times at the home of Warren and Carolyn Holder, 38 Park Rd., NC Hwy. 210 East, Harrells, NC 28444.
