Carlton Deon Crenshaw, affectionately known as Bam, passed away on December 11, 2025 in Sampson County North Carolina. Born June 2, 1965, he lived a life marked by love, resilience, and dedication to his family and country.
Carlton graduated from Union High School and received an Associate Arts Degree from Sampson Community College. He was member of St. Stephen AME Zion Church.
Carlton married Gaylnn S. DeVane in 1985. From this union he is survived by two sons, Alonzo Deon and Brandon Cassell-Elbert. He found immense joy in his role as a grandfather. His grandchildren, Ziyah, Alonzo II, Tahiri, Tristan, Wynter, and Ze’kai were a source of pride and happiness for him. He is survived by his stepfather, Charlie Malone, Jr. He is fondly remembered by his aunts, Audrey Drake (Reuben), Dorothy Johnson, Lillian Johnson (James), his uncles Philmore Boykin, William Boykin (Jeanette) several cousins and special friends.
Carlton was preceded in death by his mother, Barbara Malone, who nurtured him with love and guidance. He shared fond memories of his aunt Lula Crenshaw and his uncle Elbert (Pistol) Crenshaw both of whom played significant roles in his life.
A proud Air Force veteran, Carlton served with honor, embodying the values of duty and commitment. His military service was testament to his character, reflecting his desire to contribute positively to society.
As family and friends gather to celebrate Carlton’s life, he will be remembered as a devoted father, grandfather, nephew and friend who brought warmth and humor to all those around him. His memory will continue shine brightly in the hearts of those who loved him.
A Memorial Service will be held at 12 noon on Saturday, January 17, 2025, at Carter Funeral Home, 111 N. Ingold Ave., Garland, NC. The family will receive friends starting at 11:00 AM.
