Carol Ann Wright, a devoted school bus driver for the Public School System and a beloved member of her community, passed away peacefully on February 27, 2026, in Columbus County, North Carolina. Born November 7, 1943, in Bladen County, NC, she dedicated her life to nurturing young minds and ensuring their safety on the road.

Carol was known for her warmth, kindness, and unwavering commitment to her family and her job. Her infectious smile and caring demeanor made her a favorite among the children she transported daily. The impact she made as a school bus driver extended beyond her professional duties; she developed meaningful relationships with countless families throughout her career.

She is survived by her son, Darien Wright (Neena) of Fayetteville, NC; her daughter, Darnesha Wright of Elizabethtown, NC; and her son-in-law, Robert Day of Burlington, NC. Carol was a proud grandmother to six grandchildren: Marcus Wright, Tondella Autry, Darien Wright II, Taquanda White, RyKell Wright, and RyZavian Wright, as well as nine great-grandchildren who brought immense joy to her life.

Carol was the cherished sister of Cora McLean Lee of Elizabethtown, NC, and Mozell Kenny (Michael) of Charlotte, NC. Her family and friends will remember her for her nurturing spirit, her love of laughter, and her strength in the face of adversity.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lency and Ester Autry McLean; her daughter, Jeanette Pamela Wright; two sisters, Mary Stowers and Mildred Herring; and one brother, Clarence McLean. The legacy of love and devotion that Carol leaves behind will echo through her family for generations to come.

A viewing will be held on March 6, 2026, from 1:00 PM to 6:00 PM, at Carter Funeral Home located at 111 North Ingold Avenue in Garland, NC. A funeral service will take place on, Saturday,  March 7, 2026, at 2:00 PM, at Pleasant Hill Holiness Church, 2020 Johnsontown Road, Elizabethtown, NC, followed by interment at Autry Cemetery on Johnsontown Road at 3:30 PM. Reverend John McCoy will be officiating the service. 

The family will also receive friends at 1043 Jack Richardson Road, Elizabethtown, NC. 

Carol Ann Wright's life was a testament to the power of love, family, and service. She will be profoundly missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.
