Carolyn Letterece Newkirk

Carolyn Letterece Newkirk, born on May 22, 1971, in New Brunswick, NJ, gently left this world on July 20, 2025, at ECU Health Duplin Hospital in Kenansville, NC. As a devoted mother, sister, and grandmother, Carolyn's legacy will be cherished by many who were fortunate enough to know her.

Having dedicated a significant part of her life to her career, Carolyn served as the Manager at a Kentucky Fried Chicken Restaurant, where her commitment and leadership were evident. Her strong work ethic and enthusiasm for the job provided not just sustenance but also warm interactions within her community, reflecting the care she brought to all aspects of her life.

A beloved mother, Carolyn is survived by her two daughters, Audrianna Newkirk (Da’Quante Davis) of Fayetteville, NC, and Alexandria Newkirk of Teachey, NC, as well as her son, Alonzo Newkirk Jr. (Latesha) of Turkey, NC. She was a proud grandmother to Freya Newkirk and Kenji Newkirk, who brought her immense joy and love. Sister to Renita Brooks (Cedric) of Ivanhoe, NC. 

Carolyn valued family bonds and was known for her engaging spirit and nurturing nature. She is preceded in death by her parents, Carl Gaston Kerr and Jacqueline Crisp Kerr, whose guidance and love laid the foundation for the person she became.

The life of Carolyn Letterece Newkirk will be celebrated with a series of services. Friends and family are invited to attend the viewing on July 29, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Carter Funeral Home, located at 111 North Ingold Avenue, Garland, NC. The funeral service will take place the following day, July 30, 2025, at 1:00 PM at Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church, situated at 9364 Wildcat Road, Ivanhoe, NC. Carolyn will then be interred at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church Cemetery in Harrells, NC. Reverend Garry Kerr will be officiating the service.
