Mr. Don Ray Owens was born to the late Marvin L. Owens Sr. and Mrs. Bessie T. Owens on February 5, 1957 in Bladen County. He peacefully departed this earthly realm on Thursday, August 7, 2025, at the Magnolia Assisted Living facility in Clinton, NC.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Marvin L. Owens Sr. and Bessie T Owens and siblings; 6 brothers; Jimmy Robinson, Harry Owens, Douglas Owens, Daniel Owens, Arthur Owens, and Johnny Owens; 7 sisters; Betty Newkirk, Patricia Sellers, Mimi Gail Owens, Sandra Owens, Carolyn Boykin, Sennie Brothers, and Cathy McMillan; brothers-in-laws, Andrew Thomas Sr., Robert L. Moore, James Thomas, and Martin Thomas.
Don Ray received his education in the Bladen County School system. His past jobs included working at Hamilton Beach and in the family Logwood business. Don was a skillful and master handyman that enjoyed doing mechanical and construction work.
Don Ray was married to his wife Joyce Thomas Owens on February 13, 1993. He has 2 sons, Adam Owens of the home (Roseboro, NC) and Daniel Ray Thompson (Clinton, NC); 1 daughter; Erica Thomas (Clinton, NC). He has two loving grandchildren, Daniel Ray Thompson Jr. Clinton, NC) and Brianna Thomas (Durham, NC).
Don Ray leaves to cherish his memories his sons, Adam and Danny; daughter, Erica (Clinton, NC); 2 grandchildren; Daniel Jr (Clinton, NC) and Brianna (Durham, NC). 3 sisters; Janice Highsmith and Debor Lloyd both of Garland, NC; and Phyllis (James) Sutton (Windsor, NC). 3 brothers; Leander (Annie) Owens and Howard (Everlene) Owens both of Garland, NC; Marvin (Christina) Owens (Whiteville, NC); aunt; Pattie Mae (Theodore) Russ; brothers-in-laws, Richard (Sue) Thomas (Roseboro, NC); Perry L. Moore (Siler City, NC), Frederick Thomas and Eddie Smith (Fayetteville, NC) and a sister-in-law, Ruby Thomas (Roseboro, NC) and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
His family and friends are invited to pay their respects during the viewing scheduled for August 15, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Carter Funeral Home, located at 111 North Ingold Avenue, Garland, NC. Following the viewing, a funeral service will be held at the Church of the Lord Jesus Christ, starting at 2:00 PM, located at 718 Garland Airport Road, Garland, NC. After the service, Don will be interred in a ceremony at Owens Cemetery, with the interment beginning at 3:30 PM at 119 Parkway Avenue, Garland, NC.
The family will also be receiving friends at the home of Leander & Annie Owens, 3747 NC Hwy 210 W., Garland, NC.
