Grady Coleman Smith, a beloved member of his community and a dedicated worker, passed away on May 7, 2025, at Columbus Regional Hospital in Whiteville, North Carolina. He was born on February 11, 1964, in Bladen County, NC, where he began his journey through life.

Grady took up auto mechanics from Bladen Community College in Dublin, NC. He devoted many years to serving as a Maintenance Worker for the Public School System, impacting the lives of countless students and staff with his unwavering commitment and diligent work ethic. His contributions to the education system reflect not only his skills but also his deep sense of responsibility and care for the environment in which the community's children learned and grew. During his spare time he enjoyed eating at Melvin’s and shopping at Walmart.

He is survived by two sisters, Dicnice S. Johnson of Elizabethtown, NC, and Teresa S. Bordeaux, along with her husband Ronnie, also of Elizabethtown, NC. Grady was cherished by his six brothers: Eric Smith Jr., and his spouse Debbie who reside in New Port News, VA, Jerry L. Smith of Elizabethtown, NC, Carey Smith and his spouse Mima of Fredericksburg, VA, Freddie Smith from Goldsboro, NC, and Tyrone Smith of Lusby, MD. His nephew, Timothy Smith, who shared a brotherly bond with Grady, also survives him in Elizabethtown, NC. He is also survived by a host of uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. 

Grady was preceded in death by his parents, Earie and Odessa Smith, who provided him with a foundation of love and values. He was also welcomed into eternal rest by his sister-in-law, Starr Smith, and his nephew, Carey Smith Jr.

As we remember Grady Coleman Smith, we honor the life he lived, marked by his dedication to his profession and his deep-rooted connections to family and community. His legacy will continue through those who were lucky enough to know him and who carry forward the warmth and kindness he brought to their lives.
