James "Buddy" Alford Cain

James Alford Cain, affectionately called "Buddy" of Garland, NC, born September 20, 1942, in Sampson County, North Carolina, passed away on August 8, 2026, at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, North Carolina.

Mr. Cain was the son of Adrian Cain and Annie Lou Cain, both of whom preceded him in death. He is also preceded in death by siblings: Bennie Cain; Willie R. Cain; Teddy Cain, and Eloise Norris. Throughout his life, James made a lasting impact on those who knew him personally and professionally. Raised in Sampson County, he carried the values of his community throughout his years.

James will be fondly remembered by his surviving family members, including his siblings: Susan Beasley of White Lake, NC; Diane Jernigan; Travis Cain, and Donnie Cain, all of Garland, NC, Carrie Seger of Stedman, NC, and Thomas Cain of Beulaville, NC, and numerous nieces and nephews.  The enduring bonds he shared with his family were a central pillar in his life.

The family will receive friends on Friday, August 14, 2026, from 3:00-4:00 PM, at Carter Funeral Home, 111 N. Ingold Ave., Garland, NC. The funeral service will follow, starting at 4:00 PM. Burial will be at the Garland Cemetery, 1030 Harrells Hwy, Garland, NC, following the service.
