James "JT" Thomas Riley

James Thomas Riley, affectionately known as "JT," passed away on January 1, 2026, at the Bethesda Health Care Facility in Eastover, North Carolina, at the age of 95. Born on October 17, 1930, in Harnett County, North Carolina, James led a life filled with dedication, service, and familial love.

For an impressive 47 years, James worked for Garland Shirt Company (Fleet Line), where he dedicated his skills and hard work to support his family and community. His unwavering commitment to his career was a testament to his strong work ethic and resilience. James was a long time member of Garland Baptist Church and also the Garland Fire Department.

James served honorably in the United States Marine Corps for three years, embodying the values of courage and discipline that are integral to the Marine spirit. His military service was a point of pride for him and a reflection of his commitment to his country.

James was a loving father to his children, Barbara Dell Burton, George Riley “Tommy,” and Daniel Riley. He cherished each moment spent with his grandchildren; Jason Riley, his wife Jessica, Lauren Burton, Matthew Burton, Hailey Riley, and Tiffany Riley, as well as his five great-grandchildren, all of whom brought immense joy to his life.

James was predeceased by his beloved mother, Lessie Hales, his father, Daniel Riley, and his first wife, Patricia Smith Riley. He later found companionship with his cherished wife, Mary Anne Riley, who continued to be a source of strength and love throughout their years together.

As we remember James Thomas Riley, we are reminded of his steadfast character, his profound love for his family, and his deep commitment to his work and service.

Visitation will be held on January 6, 2026, from 1:00 PM to 1:45 PM at Garland Baptist Church, located at 55 West 2nd Street, Garland, NC 28441. A funeral service honoring his life will follow at 2:00 PM, with interment taking place thereafter at Garland Cemetery at 3:30 PM.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude for the outstanding care provided to James during his time at Bethesda Health Care in Eastover, NC. The warmth, patience, and dedication shown by the staff will always be remembered.
