Born on July 28, 1943, in Sampson County, North Carolina, Jannie’s life was marked by dedication, hard work, and a deep commitment to the people she loved.

Jannie Bell Newton devoted many years of her life to her career as a seamstress at the Garland Shirt Factory. Her skill and meticulous attention to detail were evident in all her work, and she took pride in the craftsmanship that characterized her contributions to the factory. After years of faithful service, she retired, leaving behind a legacy of diligence and professionalism that was respected by her colleagues and the wider community.

Beyond her professional life, Jannie’s warmth and kindness touched the lives of many. She was known for her gentle spirit and her willingness to offer support and encouragement to those around her. Jannie is lovingly remembered by her niece, Evelyn Rose Barksdale, and her husband, Reverend George Barksdale, of Faison, North Carolina, alongside other beloved family members who hold her memory dear. Their lives were enriched by her love and guidance, which continue to inspire them.

Her mother, Eula Mae Vann, and her sister, Mary Alice Newton Raynor. While they have gone before, their memory lives on through Jannie and the family she leaves behind.

A Funeral Service will be held at 12 Noon, on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, at Carter Funeral Home, 111 N. Ingold Ave. Garland, NC. Interment to follow in the Garland Community Cemetery, Hill Circle Road, Garland, NC. Reverend Dr. George Barksdale will be officiating the service.
