Garland

Jimmie Butler Blackman, a devoted member of his community and beloved family man, passed away on January 29, 2026, at Kitty Askins. Born in Sampson County, NC, on December 13, 1938, Jimmie lived a life characterized by dedication, service, and love for his hometown of Garland.

At the young age of 18, Jimmie began his career at Carter Funeral Home, where his commitment to serving others soon led him to become co-owner alongside his business partner, Phillip D. Smoak. His work in the funeral industry was not merely a profession; it was a calling that reflected his compassionate nature and his desire to support those in their times of need.

In addition to his role at Carter Funeral Home, Jimmie was a co-founder and chief of the Garland Volunteer Rescue Service, embodying the spirit of service that defined much of his life. His contributions to his community extended further as he served as a town commissioner of Garland, taking pride in advocating for and improving the town he loved dearly.

Jimmie was known for his thoughtfulness, especially illuminated during the Christmas season when he generously blessed others with beautiful Poinsettias, a testament to his kind-hearted nature. He also had a passion for attending antique auctions, reflecting his enthusiasm for the past and the stories each piece held.

He leaves behind his devoted wife, Ciana Butler, who cherished their life together, alongside many friends and family from the community who will remember him fondly, and two grandchildren, Graylon Blackman and Andrew Blackman.  He is also survived by his 19 year old cat, Zoey. Jimmie's legacy is further complemented by the memory of his parents, H.C. Blackman and Lucile Butler Blackman, his son Johnny Blackman, and his two brothers, John Carlton Blackman and James Norwood Blackman, who have predeceased him.

He was a United States Army Veteran who proudly served his country.
