John "Fish" Fitzgerald Boykin Sr.

May 12, 1964 — August 16, 2025

Fayetteville

Eulogy for John Fitzgerald Boykin John Fitzgerald Boykin, affectionately known to many as “Fish,” was born on May 12, 1964, to Jay Lewis Boykin and Vernell Boykin in the close-knit and charming town of Rosehill, North Carolina. From the beginning, John carried with him a calm strength, a loving spirit, and a heart devoted to those he held dear.

In his younger years, John proudly answered the call of duty and enlisted in the United States Army, serving his country with honor and integrity. His years in the military helped shape his disciplined, hard-working nature—traits he carried into every area of his life.

Following his military service, John continued his professional journey with International, where he became known for his reliability and commitment. Later, he joined Chimes, where he worked diligently and honorably until his health began to decline. Through every chapter, John led by quiet example—always steady, always dependable.

More than his career or accomplishments, John’s greatest pride and joy was his family. He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife of 39 years, Juliet Boykin, whose unwavering love and support were a cornerstone of his life. Together, they built a home filled with warmth, respect, and lasting love.

He is lovingly remembered by his children: Jojuan (Jeannette) Mosley of Clinton, NC, John Jr. (Christina) Boykin, Nikki (Xzavier) Barksdale, Breonia Teachey (Shaun Beard), all of Fayetteville, NC; and Lashanda (Benjamine) Williams of Daytona Beach, FL. His legacy continues through his 18 grandchildren and one great-grandchild, all of whom he adored deeply and who brought him endless pride. John also leaves behind three loving sisters—Jahalia (Frankie) Imes and Sarah Chatman, both of Fayetteville, NC; and Vanessa Childs (David Smith) of Richmond, VA—and one brother, Virgil (Peggy) Boykin of New Brunswick, NJ, two aunts: Rebecca Hill, and Ella Lee Mathis. In addition, he is remembered fondly by a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, in-laws, and extended family members whose lives he touched with love and kindness.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jay Lewis Boykin and Vernell Boykin; his brothers Antonio Boykin and Jerry Boykin; his beloved sister, Antoinette Boykin, and his nephew Shawn Boykin.

John will be remembered as a man of quiet strength, deep love, and steady devotion. He lived a life of purpose, grace, and humility. As his health began to fade, his wife, children, and sister Sarah stood faithfully by his side with the same love and loyalty he had shown them throughout their lives—a powerful testament to the bond they shared.

Though he is no longer physically with us, John’s presence will remain in our hearts. His memory lives on in the stories we tell, the values he passed down, and the love that binds us all together.

Rest peacefully, John “Fish” Boykin. You were deeply loved, and you will be forever missed.
