Jonnie Ray Sellars

Jonnie Ray Sellars, born on March 25, 1959, in Sampson County, NC, passed away peacefully on May 9, 2025, at Sampson Regional Medical Center in Clinton, NC. He was 66 years old.

Jonnie dedicated a significant part of his life to his career at the House of Raeford in Wallace, NC, where he was not only a valued employee but also a beloved presence among his colleagues. His work ethic and commitment to his job were admired by many.

In addition to his professional endeavors, Jonnie was an active member of the community. He found joy in music as a member of the male choir at Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church, where he enriched the worship experience with his voice. Jonnie also generously volunteered at several food banks, demonstrating his deep care for those around him. His spirit of service and kindness left a lasting impression on all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Jonnie is survived by his two sisters, Brenda Highsmith and husband Connie Ray of Harrells, NC, and Anjeanette Kerr of Harrells, NC; his father, Ivory Sellars of Philadelphia, PA; his god-sister, Donna Stevens (Kelvin) of Harrells, NC; and his special mom, Sudie Highsmith and husband Johnell of Harrells, NC, Special Aunt Gloria Alford of Harrells, Aunt, Thelma Newton of Harrells, Aunt Mable Flgueroa of NY, Aunt Dorothy Gibbs of Texas, Uncle Luther Newkirk, of Bladen, NC, Uncle Jimmy Sellars of Washington, DC,  Speical friend Cloddie Murphy of Harrells. He was also cherished by a host of nieces and nephews who will carry on his memory.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Elizabeth Newkirk Sellars, and a sister Cathy Sellars.

The family will receive friends at the home of Anjeanette Kerr, located at 256 Cannady Road, Harrells, NC.

Visitation is scheduled for Thursday,  May 15, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Carter Funeral Home Inc, 111 N Ingold Ave, Garland, NC, with the family present from 5:00-6:00 PM.

 A funeral service will be held on Friday, May 16, 2025, at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church, 9364 Wildcat Road, Harrells, NC, beginning at 1:00 PM, followed by interment at Newkirk Cemetery, Harrells, NC.
