Judy Thomas Smoak

Judy Thomas Smoak, 79, of White Lake, NC, passed away on August 18, 2026, at Angel House Hospice Care Center in Whiteville, North Carolina. Born on September 18, 1946, in Charleston County, South Carolina, Judy’s life was marked by unwavering devotion to her family and a kindness that touched all who knew her.

Judy was a member of Lakewood Country Club for more than 50 years before moving to White Lake, NC. Judy was an avid golfer throughout the years. She was a member of Lake Church at White Lake and loved her many friends and neighbors. Judy worked in the insurance industry and retired from Nationwide Insurance Company. She loved canning, shopping with the girls, arts and crafts, and enjoying her porch at White Lake.

Judy was the cherished daughter of the late Willie D. Thomas and Ada Potter Thomas. She also was preceded by her late stepmother, Dora Thomas, and her late brother, Jimmy Thomas. In marriage, Judy found her steadfast partner and friend in the late Gary E. Smoak Sr. Together, they shared 55 years of marriage.

 Judy is survived by her devoted sons, Gary E. Smoak Jr. and wife Tammy, Phillip D. Smoak and wife Michelle, her heart swelled with pride and joy for her grandchildren: Ty W. Smoak (Chloe Sharpe), and Morgan D. Smoak. She also leaves to cherish her memory her siblings—Rebecca "Billie" Floyd, Ann T. Bennett, Ben Thomas and wife Pam, Tammy T. Moore and husband Bobby, and sister-in-law, Mary S. Hogan.

The family would like to thank all who have offered support during this time and those who were part of Judy’s life. Her memory will be forever cherished and honored by all who had the privilege to know her.

A Graveside Service will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, August 21, 2026, at Hardy-Autry Cemetery, 3907 Hayes Mill Road, Godwin, NC. Reverend Cameron McGill and Reverend Jim Woodruff will be officiating the service. 

The family will receive friends on Thursday, August 20, 2026, from 4:00-7:00 PM, at Carter Funeral Home, 111 N. Ingold Ave., Garland, NC.
