Marshall Spencer Horne, a dedicated farmer known for his work with swine and various crops, passed away peacefully on April 4, 2026, at his residence in Garland, North Carolina. Born on February 15, 1939, in Sampson County, North Carolina, Marshall devoted his life to both his family and his community with steadfast commitment.
Marshall’s life was marked by honorable military service in the United States Army. His dedication to his country was a proud part of his legacy, reflecting a spirit of duty and resilience that he carried throughout his years.
A lifelong resident of Garland, North Carolina, Marshall was deeply rooted in the traditions and values of his community. His expertise in agriculture allowed him to nurture the land and provide for his family, a testament to his hard work and perseverance.
He is survived by his loving wife, Betty Jo Horne, who shared a lifetime of memories by his side in their home; daughter, Barbara Williams (Larry Williams) of White Lake, North Carolina; and his two sons, Sammy Horne (Mary Horne) of Garland, and Wayne Horne (April Horne) of White Lake, are proud bearers of his name and values. Marshall also leaves behind three cherished sisters: Eunice Fincannon, Minnie Horne, and Becky Moser, all of Garland, North Carolina. The joy of his life extended to his nine grandchildren—Hannah Horne, McKenzie Williams, Ashlyn Williams, Ayden Williams, Kennedy Williams, Spencer Williams, Troy Williams, Kyli (Cameron) Carr, and Paige Hartman; and four great grandchildren, Camile Carr, Hazel Carr, Hayes Carr and Haven Chambers - who filled his later years with happiness and pride.
Marshall was preceded in death by his parents, James Horne and Rebecca Marshall Horne, whose legacy he honored through his own life's work. He also mourned the loss of two sisters, Dorothy Staton and Magadlene Edge, as well as his brother Charles Horne, whose memories remain treasured by the family.
A funeral service will held at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, April 8, 2026, at the Garland Baptist Church, 55 W. 2nd St., Garland, NC. Officiating the service will be Reverend Ed Rouse, and Hampton Faircloth. Burial will follow in the Garland Cemetery with Military Honors.
Visitation will be held from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, Wednesday, April 8, 2026, at Garland Baptist Church, located at 55 W. 2nd Street, Garland, NC.
