Mitchell Rudolph Barnes, born on February 10, 1966, in Bladen County, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on July 14, 2025, in his beloved hometown of Bladen County. He is remembered as a devoted father, a cherished brother, a loving companion, and a treasured friend.
Mitchell's legacy lives on through his two sons: Mitchell "Mickey" Barnes of Clinton, North Carolina, and Christopher Jenkins of Iowa. He also leaves behind a grandson, Roman "RJ" Blake Barnes Jr., who brought much joy to his life. Mitchell's family connections extended to his sister, Lisa Long, and her husband, El-Roy, along with his brothers Thomas Ray Barnes and Charles Hester Barnes, all of whom reside in Garland, North Carolina. In addition, he is lovingly remembered by his companion, Nancy Sparhawk of Clinton, and his Momma Lib, Elizabeth "Lib" Barnes, of Garland.
Mitchell was predeceased by his parents, Charlie Hoover Barnes and Matilda Jane Gilmore Barnes, as well as a nephew, Roman Blake Barnes, and his best friend, Randy Mun Barnes. These relationships profoundly shaped his life and will be cherished by those who remain.
Family and friends are invited to gather to honor and celebrate Mitchell’s life. A visitation will take place on July 20, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Beards Chapel Fellowship Hall in Garland, North Carolina. This will be followed by a funeral service starting at 3:00 PM in the Chapel, with interment at Beards Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery in Elizabethtown, North Carolina, following the service. Reverend Ralph Carter Jr. will be officiating the service.
