Robert Carey

Robert "Bobby" E. Carey, 83, of 963 Old US 701 Hwy., Clinton, NC, passed away on Sunday, December 28, 2025, at his home surrounded by his loved ones.

Bobby was born July 31, 1942, in New York to the late: Matthew & Anna Carey. Robert lived a life of service. As a volunteer Firefighter with the Garland Volunteer Fire Department for 40 years, he dedicated himself to protecting his neighbors & supporting his community when and where he was needed. Known for his selflessness, strength, & kindness, he leaves behind a legacy of service, integrity, & love. He retired from Prestige Farms after 17 years, and for over 18 years he faithfully maintained Peter's Creek Ballfield, taking great pride in caring for a place that brought joy to generations of players & families. He will be remembered for his strong work ethic, dependability, & commitment to service and family.

In addition to his parents, Bobby is preceded in death by: his wife, Susan Carey, his son, Robert Carey Jr. "Dinky", 2 brothers, Johnny Carey, Ed Carey, & sisters, Rita Strickland, Elizabeth Johnson, & Rose McIvin.

Bobby leaves to cherish his memory, two daughters: Lila Blackburn & husband Teddy, of Garland, NC, Brenda Finney & husband Ike, of Ingold, NC, 8 grandchildren, & 24 great grandchildren. 

The family will receive friends on Thursday, January 1, 2026, from 5:00-7:00 PM, at Carter Funeral Home, 111 N. Ingold Ave., Garland, NC.

The Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 PM, Friday, January 2, 2026, at the Church of God of Prophecy, 350 N. Herring Ave, Garland, NC. Reverend Ronnie Corbett will be officiating the service. Burial following the service at the Garland Cemetery, 1017 Harrells Hwy., Garland, NC.
