Thomas J. Roberts

Thomas J. Roberts, known fondly as Tom, passed away peacefully on July 22, 2026, at the Valley Hospice House in Fayetteville, NC. Born on October 19, 1952, in Amberg, Germany, Tom’s life was characterized by hard work, integrity, and the deep care he showed for those around him.

Throughout his 73 years, Tom enriched the lives of all who were privileged to know him. His roots stretched across continents, from his birth in Germany to the many communities he touched in his lifetime. He was a beloved husband, cherished family member, and a steadfast friend.

Tom is survived by his devoted wife, Iris Barnes Roberts, whose companionship and love were constants in his life. His sister, Linda Polston, also survives him, carrying forward the family bonds that were so important to Tom. The depth of his friendships was equally profound, remembered fondly by many friends near and far who now mourn his loss and celebrate his memory.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Grady Roberts and Maria Roberts, whose values and guidance shaped the remarkable person Tom became.

Tom was an avid outdoorsman, who enjoyed horseback riding, traveling, camping, and working outside.

A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 PM, Sunday, July 26, 2026, at Bladen Union Baptist Church, 2224 Bladen Union Church Road, Fayetteville, NC.
