William “Billy” Luther Petty, December 31, 1949 – September 1, 2025

William “Billy” Luther Petty, 75, of Rocky Point, passed away unexpectedly at his home on September 1, 2025. He was born in Sampson County on December 31, 1949, to the late Luther and Carlene Petty.

Billy is preceded in death by his parents, Luther and Carlene Petty, and sister Celena Petty Smith. He is survived by his loving wife, Annette Petty of Leland, NC; son Beau Petty and wife Jodie, granddaughter Alexis of Chocowinity, NC; daughter Sherry Carter of New York; daughter Melanie Petty of Castle Hayne; grandson Chandler Petty; and granddaughter Meagan Petty, and nephew Matthew Smith and wife Siobahn of Greenville, NC.

Billy spent his early years in Ayden, NC. At age 20, he moved to Wilmington and began working at DuPont. His journey later took him to Jacksonville, Florida, where he launched a successful career in real estate sales and title work. Eventually, Billy returned to Wilmington to continue his work in real estate until his retirement.

Billy was known for his love of gardening, his enthusiasm for sports, and his deep affection for dogs. He brought joy and warmth to those around him and will be remembered for his kind spirit and vibrant personality.

A Celebration of Life was held on September 6, 2025, at the Fellowship Hall of Garland Baptist Church in Garland, North Carolina.

Billy’s legacy lives on in the hearts of his family and friends. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.
