Mrs. Arlene M. Highsmith was born September 6, 1930, in Bladen County to the late Raymond Murphy and his wife Lula Simpson Murphy. Arlene was a hard-working woman at a very young age. By the age of 16, she met and married Jessie G. Highsmith, unto their union 18 children were born. She was a proud member and Mother of the Church of the Lord Jesus Christ, where she worshipped and shared her beautiful singing voice in the choir until she stepped down, then she happily shared it from the congregation with her fellow worshippers.

Arlene was preceded in death by her husband, Jessie G. Highsmith, and 5 children.

Mrs. Arlene Highsmith is survived by 6 daughters: Addie J. Herring of Garland, Juanita Newkirk (Luther) of Harrells, Vivian Highsmith of Harrells, Brenda Highsmith of Garland, Jean Highsmith of Harrells, Anese Gibbs of Garland, 7 sons: Willie G. Highsmith ( Liza) of Garland, Floyd Highsmith (Elaine) of Garland, Harold Highsmith of Clinton, Glenn Highsmith of Harrells, Archie Highsmith (Denise) of Durham, Samuel Highsmith of Teaneck, NJ, Jeffery Highsmith of Garland, one sister: Marie Henry, and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and many friends.

A Viewing will be held on Friday, December 22, 2023, from 1:00-6:00 PM, with the family present from 5:00-6:00 PM, at Carter Funeral Home, 111 N. Ingold Ave., Garland.

A Funeral Service will be held at Noon, on Saturday, December 23, 2023, at the Church of the Lord Jesus Christ, 718 Garland Airport Road, Garland. Interment to follow in the Fennell Memorial Park Cemetery, 204 Murphy Town Road, Harrells, NC. Reverend Deacon Owens will be officiating the service.
