Barbara Hall Matthews

Ms. Barbara Hall Matthews, 90, passed away peacefully on March 11, 2023.  Born on June 19, 1932, she was the second of five daughters of H. Pritchard Hall and Lella Mae Hall of Sampson County.  She attended Clement School and graduated in 1950.  She worked for over sixty-five years as an office manager in various companies.  She served as a legal assistant for Holland and Poole, Attorneys, and M.B. Fowler, Attorney at Law.  She served as office manager for Boren Brick Company and Crumpler Plastic Pipe Company.  She finished her career as office manager for both Rogers and Breece and Butler Funeral Homes before retiring at age 84.

Barbara was a proud resident of the town of Roseboro where she served as a member of both the Roseboro Woman’s Club and the Roseboro First Baptist Church.  She was honored by her church for serving as recording secretary and deacon.

Barbara was preceded in death by her husband of forty-three years, Thomas V. Matthews, Jr., and her sisters, Doris Hall Cashwell, Ruth Hall Raymes, Jewel Hall Smith, and Genevieve Hall.

Barbara is survived by her only son, Neal Shawn Matthews, wife Suzi Matthews, and her two grandchildren, Shawn and Melina Matthews.

The funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, March 15, 2023, at Roseboro First Baptist Church with the Reverend Hampton Faircloth officiating.   Burial will follow in the Sunrise Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in her honor to the Roseboro First Baptist Church.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 15, 2023, from 1:00 P.M.-1:50 PM at the church before the service.
