Bernard "Jule" McKoy

Mr. Bernard “Jule” McKoy, 62, of 177 Center St., Garland, passed away on November 08, 2022, at his residence.

 Mr. Bernard McKoy was born on August 12, 1960, to the late Annie F. McKoy and Alfonso Carter. He departed this life on November 8, 2022. Bernard attended Garland High School, graduating in 1978. While in school, he played basketball and received a scholarship to attend Southeastern Community College in Whiteville, NC. He later attended the Kentucky School of Licenses and received his Commercial Driver’s License and had a career in transportation, driving for Smithfield, and was employed at Barcalounger.

Later in life, Bernard became a faithful member of St. Stephen AME Zion Church in Garland, NC. He was a dedicated and loyal member, serving as a trustee, on the male chorus, and assisting with the Christian Education Department and whatever capacity he was needed in. Bernard expelled great love and enthusiasm for his church. He was known as a good neighbor and many counted him as a friend. He loved the things that he enjoyed doing and the people whom he enjoyed being around. Bernard has now fulfilled his purpose. Though we, his family and friends may weep for a while, we rejoice for him and thank our heavenly father for the life he lived among us and for taking him to the land of glory that he promised his faithful will be with him one day.

The funeral service will be held at 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, November 15, 2022, at St. Stephens AME Zion Church, officiated by Rev. Dr. Hugh Miller Sr, and the eulogist by Rev. Darius R. Ballard.  Burial will follow in the Garland Community Cemetery.

Bernard is preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Ray Charles McKoy.

His memory is left to cherish by, his special friend of many years, Sheverlon Powell. Three sisters, Alice F. McKoy of Philadelphia, PA, and Deborah and Arlene McKoy of the home. Two aunts, Willnetta Hammonds of Philadelphia, PA, and Zula McKoy of Collins, MS.  A favorite cousin, Dianne Badger of Elizabethtown, NC, and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

A public viewing will be held on Monday, November 14, 2022, from 1:00 P.M.-6:00 P.M. with family present from 5:00 PM-6:00 P.M.
