Edith E. (Freeman) Carroll

At the age of 95, on March 30, 2021, God sent his heavenly angles to call our beloved Edith Carroll home from trails and strife to a land of everlasting peace. 

Born to the late Lizzie Blackman and Lee Freeman, she lived a joyous life. Although she has no children, she was a mother to many. She was sharing, kind and instilled hard work, and high values to all. She enjoyed fishing, cooking and sewing. 

She was a member of Sam Spring AME Zion Church of Roseboro, NC.

She was married to the late James Carroll (2nd husband) and Lorenzo Hargrove (1st husband). She is also preceded in death by her parents, Lee and Lizzie Freeman, and her brothers, Levis and Lee Frank Freeman and one of the many children she raised, Jessie Hargrove. 

She is survived by her sister Ethel Newkirk,  nephews, Lee Newkirk (Lynda), Roy Newkirk, Ronnie Newkirk, Curtis Newkirk (Evelyn), Levis Freeman, Jimmy Hargrove whom she raised a son (Marylin), nieces, Ella McCutcheon (Dana), Emma Bumbry (Carl),  Reba Morrison (Calvin), Valerie Morris and Marie Lewis. She also leaves to morn many other nephews and nieces and a special friend Priscilla Culberth of whom she cherished.

A graveside funeral will be held at 1:00 PM Friday, April 02, 2021 at Roseboro Snow Hill Cemetery in Roseboro. The Reverend John M. Melvin will be officiating.

A viewing will be held on Thursday, April 01, 2021 from 1:00-6:00 PM at Carter Funeral Home in Garland.
