Ernestine "Steine" Newkirk

Ms. Ernestine “Steine” Newkirk, 88, of 393 Stringfield Rd., Willard, NC, passed away on Monday, February 20, 2023, at UNC Rex Hospital in Raleigh.

Ernestine was born September 01, 1934, in Sampson County, to the late Rosa Lee Highsmith Newkirk and Bero Rhodes Newkirk. In addition to her parents, Ernestine is preceded in death by four sisters: Pearl Newkirk; Eleanor N. Robinson; Virginia Lee N. Harris; Glendora Wright, and four brothers: James Cicero Newkirk; Larry Keith Newkirk; Ebbie Rhodes Newkirk; and Ben Newton. Ernestine spent most of her life in the farming industry.  

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, February 25, 2023, at Roseville Missionary Baptist Church, 2870 Wilmington Hwy, Willard, NC, with the Rev. Gregory Stringfield officiating. Interment to follow at the Newkirk Family Cemetery, Hwy 421, Willard, NC.

Ernestine leaves to cherish her memory one daughter: Angelina “Angie” Newkirk, Raleigh, NC, one grandson: Axtreyul “Trey” D. Newkirk, Raleigh, NC, her dedicated lifelong partner: Willis “Buck” Fennell, Harrells, NC, two sisters:  Eunice DeVane, Harrells, NC; Mary Carr, Willard, NC,  and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Friday, February 24, 2023, from 1:00-5:00 PM, at Carter Funeral Home in Garland, NC.
