Ethelene (Jacobs) Herring

Mrs. Ethelene Jacobs Herring, 79, of 582 West 2nd St., passed away on Friday, October 30, 2020 at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, NC. She was a member of Mt. Carmel Church of Newburgh, NY. Mrs. Herring retired from Mt. Saint Mary’s College Infirmary in Newburgh, NY as a Nurse Assistant. She was a very loving and caring person. Once she relocated to North Carolina she became a member of Garland Baptist Church.

Mrs. Herring was born February 22, 1941 in Sampson County to the late William Earnest Jacobs and Methia Mary Howard. Mrs. Herring is preceded in death by her husband; Napoleon Herring, one son; William Herring, two grandsons; Timothy Jacobs, Christopher Herring, one granddaughter; Shondae Peterson and one sister; Bertha Newkirk.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, November 06, 2020 at Garland Community Cemetery.

Mrs. Herring leaves to cherish her memory four sons; David Jacobs (Marlisa) of Garland, NC, Nathaniel Herring (Victoria) of Newburgh, NY, Paul Herring of Newburgh, NY, Stanley Herring (Honee) of Newburgh, NY, two daughters; Elizabeth Fay Herring of Newburgh, NY, Fay Alice Herring of Newburgh, NY, two step-sons; Napoleon Barker of Newton-Grove, NC, Nathan Melvin of Albany, NY, two sisters; Nettie Williams of Fayetteville, NC, Zelma Jacobs of Newburgh, NY, five brothers; James Jacobs (Lessie) of Elizabethtown, NC, Charles Jacobs of Fayetteville, NC, Wilbert Jacobs of South Carolina, Frank Jacobs of Newburgh, NY, Harvey L. Jacobs of Washington, DC, 32 grandchildren and a host of great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. 

A public viewing will be held on Thursday November 05, 2020 from 1:00 PM – 6:00 PM at Carter Funeral Home in Garland.
