James Edward Mitchell

Mr. James Edward Mitchell, 88, of 5290 NC Hwy 210 South, Harrells passed away Thursday, August 26, 2021 at the VA Hospital in Fayetteville.

James was born May 04, 1933 in Lenoir County, NC to the late Dock and Ella Mitchell. James was a proud veteran of the United States Navy. He was retired from the NC Department of Transportation where he was a Construction Foreman. He is preceded in death by his first wife: Helen Sutton Mitchell, 1 brother: William Earl Mitchell and 1 sister: Katie Peyton. 

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, August 31, 2021 at Sutton Cemetery, 5290 NC Hwy. 210 S. Harrells, NC with Pastor Jerry Ezzell, Jr. officiating the service. 

Mr. Mitchell leaves to cherish his memory his wife: Penelope “Penny” R. Mitchell of the home, one daughter: Janet Allen and husband Kent of Harrells, two grandchildren: Mitch Allen of Wilmington and Kelly Allen of Charlotte, one step-son: Wesley Rivenbank and wife Sharon of Chesterfield, SC, three step-daughters: Roberta Lee and husband Chris of Long Creek; Judy Nava of Harrells; Shirley Dixon and husband William of Rose Hill; 2 brothers: Thomas Mitchell and wife Frances of Harrells; Durwood Mitchell and wife Helen of Roseboro, 5 sisters: Frances Wells of Clinton; Rachel Shaw of Ivanhoe; Susan Godsey of FL; Iris Riggs of FL and Margaret Sealey of N. Myrtle Beach, SC. 

A viewing will be held on Monday, August 30, 2021 from 1:00 – 6:00 PM at Carter Funeral Home in Garland.
