Janice (Cheek) Manuel

Janice was born July 29, 1939 to the late William Clarence & Lizzie Cheek in Bladen County. Janice was preceded in death by her husband George Pettie Manuel Jr., by her brothers and sisters, WC Cheek, Vernie Cheek Melton, Verlia Brady, Jesse Waldo Cheek, Easter Cheek, and Mattie Cheek Murphy. They will always be in our hearts.

Janice leaves to mourn, one brother, James Curtis Cheek (Tallahassee, FL), and one sister, Myrtise Murphy (Alexander) of Raleigh, NC.

Janice attended Bladen Central Training School in Elizabethtown, NC. She was a nurse for 25 years at Mt. Sinai Hospital in Manhattan, NY. Janice was a caring nurse who loved her patients. She showed empathy to each patient, and treated them like people. She had a good sense of humor with her patients and their families. Her favorite hobby was completing jigsaw puzzles.

Janice was blessed with two children: George P. Manuel III (Elizabeth Rodriguez), Half Moon, NY, Kimberly (Darryl) Foye, Bronx, NY, 9 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Also, a dear friend and caretaker Myra Simmons.  

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, February 27, 2023, at Cheek Cemetery, 4064 NC HWY 210 E., Harrells. Apostle Dr. David D. Carter Sr. will be officiating the service.
