Jerry Lee Highsmith

Mr. Jerry Lee “Bird” Highsmith was born December 08, 1958, in Bladen County, NC, to the late Wade and Ida Lee Highsmith. He departed this earthly life on Tuesday, October 26, 2021, at his home.

Jerry received his education at East Bladen High School in Elizabethtown, NC. Jerry received Christ at an early age and truly loved the Lord. Jerry is preceded in death by his daughter, Vanessa, and two brothers, James and Louis.

Jerry leaves to cherish his memories his beloved wife of 35 years, Janice Owens Highsmith, of the home, two children, Scott Highsmith of Elizabethtown, NC; Mario Highsmith of the home, two grandchildren, Malik Townsend of South Carolina, Javion Highsmith of Charlotte, NC; He leaves nine sisters, Mary Highsmith, Margaret Highsmith of Philadelphia, PA; Joyce Autry (Leo) of Elizabethtown, NC, Annie Owens (Leander), Patricia Beamon, Gloria Highsmith of Garland, NC, Anna Mitchell (Robert) of Raleigh, NC; Gwedylon Pridgen (Gregory) Ivanhoe, NC; Darlene Melvin of Elizabeth City, NC, three brothers, Donald Highsmith of Fayetteville, NC; Dwight Highsmith (Cheryl) of Elizabethtown, NC and David Highsmith of Hopkinsville, KY. He leaves three sister-in-law’s, five brother-in-law’s, and four aunts along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

A viewing will be held on Friday, October 29, 2021, from 1:00-7:00 PM, at Carter Funeral Home in Garland.

A graveside service will be held at 1:00 PM, Saturday, October 30, 2021, at Fennell Memorial Park in Harrells, NC. The service will be officiated by Deacon Leander Owens and Reverend Chris Highsmith.
