Lucille (Cromartie) Carr

Mrs. Lucille Cromartie Carr, 97, of 4210 Scronce Rd., died Wednesday, December 04, 2019 at Southwood Nursing Center in Clinton, NC.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, December 13, 2019 at Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Repast will take place at Pilgrim Rest Fellowship Hall.

Lucille Cromartie Carr was born August 11, 1922 in Kerr, North Carolina to Ivery and Helen Cromartie. She attended Sampson County Public School. Lucille joined Pilgrim Rest at an early age and was a faithful member. She taught Sunday School, was a member of the Daughters of Zion, Ushers, BTU, Mission Circle and Mother Board. Lucille enjoyed going to church. She loved her church family but most of all she loved Jesus Christ her Savior and didn’t mind telling others of God’s goodness. Lucille lived in New York for a number of years until her father’s health declined. She returned to North Carolina to take care of her father. She met and married James Carr and raised six children. She was preceded in death by her husband James Carr, three brothers, three children John Otis, James Earl and Lottie Mae.

She leaves to cherish precious memories one daughter Shirley Carter (John) Camden, New Jersey, NJ., two sons Bennie Carr (Retha), Harrells, NC, and Ray Carr, Camden, NJ, one brother James Clifton (Frances), Mt. Vernon, NY, three sisters Idelia Cohen, Mt. Vernon, NY, Darletha Cromartie-Dabbs, Mt. Vernon, NY, Annie Pearl Torian (Edward), Danbury, CT, nine grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren, special cousin and caregiver Reverend Laura Corbett, foster daughter Roberto Northern , a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other family members and friends.

The public will be received on Thursday, December 12, 2019 at Carter Funeral Home from 1:00P.M.-6:00 P.M.
