Mattie Louise (Cheek) Murphy

Ms. Mattie L. Murphy, 84, of 4064 NC Hwy. 210 East, Harrells, NC passed away on Thursday, May 5, 2022 at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in Fayetteville, NC.

Mattie was preceded in death by her husband Loston Murphy and son Randolph Lofton Murphy.   She was preceded in death by her brothers and sisters, WC Cheek, Vernie Cheek Melton, Verlia Brady, Jesse Waldo Cheek, and Easter Cheek. They will always be in our hearts.   Mattie leaves to mourn one brother James Curtis (NY) and two sisters, Myrtise Murphy (Alexander) of Raleigh, NC; & Janice Manuel of Bronx NY.  Mattie received Jesus Christ at Murphy’s Chapel. She served as Usher, Steward, Stewardess, and other ministry of helps positions. Mattie attended Bladen Central Training School in Elizabethtown, NC and worked at Fleetline Shirt Factory as well as farming.   Mattie had a great love for everyone, especially children and senior citizens. She often visited Nursing Homes, the sick and shut in, and served as a caretaker for families.   Mattie was an awesome cook, who enjoyed making cakes and pies and often shared food with others. She loved making ceramics, sewing, arts and crafts. Mattie was the President of the Kwahamot Ladies Community Club in Harrells. 

    Mattie’s life will be remembered and cherished by:  Dalphia Murphy of Durham, NC; Marguerite (Margie) Carter (David) of Upper Marlboro, MD; Maxie Robinson (Lyndell) of Clinton, NC; Tony Murphy (Lisa) of Fayetteville, NC; Dennis Murphy (Taneha) of Harrells, NC; Harold Murphy (Trucinda) of Durham, NC. Mattie was also blessed with 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

The funeral service will be held at Noon(12:00 P.M.) Wednesday, May 11, 2022, at Murphy's Chapel AME Church, 6250 NC Hwy. 210 East, Harrells, NC.  Burial will follow in the Cheek Cemetery, 40644 NC Hwy. 210 East, Harrells, NC, by the Reverend Ronald Highsmith.

The public will be received on Tuesday, May 10, 2022, from 1:00 P.M.-6:00 P.M. at Carter Funeral Home, in Garland. 

A viewing will be held also on Wednesday, May 11, 2022, from 11:00 AM-11:50 A.M. before the service at the church.

The family will be receiving friends at the home of Dennis & Taneha Murphy, 6423 NC Hwy. 210 East, Harrells, NC 28444 during the hours from 5:00 P..M.- 7:00 P.M.
